THE WORKING PRINCIPLE OF EXPANDABLE GARDEN HOSES

    Expandable Garden Hoses are a type of hoses that can automatically extend and contract by adjusting the water volume. Its working principle is based on the internal structure and material properties. Below is the basic principle of analytic:

     

    1. The Elastic Material Structure

    Expandable garden hoses are usually made of materials with high strength, pressure resistance and wear resistance, which have excellent elasticity and can stretch under internal pressure and automatically contract after pressure reduction.

    When the water valve opens and water flows goes through, the water pressure inside the hose increase correspondingly, which will cause the hose to extend automatically. At this moment, the elastic material inside the hose cover is pushed and stretched to form a telescopic hose. When turn off the water resource, the rebound property of the material will restore the hose to its original state and reduce its volume.

    It is worth mentioning that recyclable plastics (such as PCR-PVC, TPE) and bio-based materials (such as corn starch-based plastics) are used in production to reduce the environmental burden.

    As for the working pressure, for example, our expandable TPE hose can still work under 10MPa. And the temperature range is from -20℃ To + 60℃ if TPE, -20℃ To + 70℃ if latex.

     

    2. Smart Devices Are Equipped With

    Some expandable garden hoses are also equipped with an automatic locking device, which can lock the hose in the extended state when it reaches the appropriate length. This device can help maintain a stable water flow and provide convenience for the operator. When it is necessary to retract or adjust the length, just operate it by unlocking the device.


    Some are with external sensors, providing a data basis for subsequent analysis and control. The main monitoring contents include:


    Water quality parameters: Detect residual chlorine, turbidity, pH value, electrical conductivity (reflecting the content of dissolved solids), heavy metals (such as lead and cadmium), and other indicators to ensure water safety (especially suitable for household, direct drinking water systems or industrial water scenarios).


    Water pressure data: Monitor the pressure changes inside the hose (such as high and low pressure fluctuations) to prevent the risk of hose burst caused by excessive pressure, or the impact on water supply stability due to insufficient pressure.


    Flow information: Calculate real-time flow and cumulative water consumption, and identify abnormal flow (such as a sudden increase which may indicate leakage).

    Temperature perception: Monitor the water temperature inside the hose or the ambient temperature (such as anti-freezing monitoring in winter) to prevent from cracking caused by low temperatures.
