Common Garden Hose Problems and Solutions 2

Table of Content [Hide]

Following on from the common problems and solutions for garden hoses mentioned above, in this post Union Booster will take you through some of the risks that can lead to damage to your garden hose in everyday life and how to avoid them.

    Sun-Exposed Garden Hoses

When a garden hose is exposed to sunlight for a long time, the hose can become brittle and become prone to breakage due to UV rays.

→Store the hose in a cool place after each use.

→If your area is hot all year round, use a UV-resistant hose to prolong its life.

    Frozen Hoses

In cold climates, if water is stored without being emptied from the pipes, freezing inside the pipes can easily cause them to become brittle and be damaged or even ruptured.

→Drain the water pipes well before winter approaches.

→Clean and maintain the inside and outside of the water pipe to keep the outside of the water pipe dry.

→Store water pipes indoors or in a place where they will not be exposed to the cold.

    Stuck or Damaged Hose Nozzles

Over time, mineral deposits can build up in water guns, causing them to dispense water unevenly or outright malfunction.

→Disassemble the water gun to clean the nozzle and clean off any dirt that can be seen.

→Soak the water gun in white vinegar to dissolve stubborn stains.

→Test for proper operation after cleaning is complete, if the malfunction is due to damage, the nozzle will need to be replaced with a new one.

    Mould Inside the Hose

Pipes that have not been cleaned and are left lying around on the ground are most susceptible to mould, and if they continue to be used without being cleaned they will have an impact on the health of your garden plants and the pipe will no longer be usable.

→Purchase a special cleaner for germ removal and pour the cleaner into the hose according to the instructions.

→Ensure that all locations in the hose are fully exposed to the cleaner and leave it for a while.

→Rinse the inside of the hose thoroughly with water.

→Empty the hose, keep it dry and store it in a cool, dry place.

    Low water pressure

If the water pressure in your home has been stable, but the amount of water coming out of the pipes is getting smaller and smaller, we need to do some of the following checks.

→Check the entire hose for leaks

→Check for twisted or kinked hoses

→Clean the hose and nozzle of the water gun to make sure sediment build-up is affecting water flow

    Crushed hose

When water pipes are placed on the ground, if they are crushed by a heavy object (e.g., a car), the pipes will be damaged and the amount of water coming out of the inside of the pipes will be affected.

→When you are finished using the hose, put it in a storage bag or hang it on the wall.

→Avoid the driveway when in use.

How can I extend the life of my hose?

Quality: Invest in a high-quality water hose, prioritising garden hoses with thicker hose material and metal fittings.

Storage: Empty the water from the hose after use and wrap it loosely in a cool, dry place.

Maintenance: Regularly check the health of your hose, clean, maintain and replace it.
